Agartala, June 26, 2025: A significant step towards strengthening veterinary healthcare in North Tripura was taken on Wednesday with the inauguration of the newly constructed District Veterinary Hospital and Medicine Store at Chandrapur, Dharmanagar. The facility was formally inaugurated by Animal Resources Development minister Sudhangshu Das.
The hospital constructed under the initiative of the state Animal Resources Development department aims to improve veterinary services in the district ensuring better accessibility and quality care for livestock and domestic animals.
“This hospital is not just a building; it is a gateway to better livestock health and a boost for the rural economy,” said Minister Das during the inauguration. He urged both farmers and the general public to utilize the services and explore government schemes related to animal husbandry and fish farming. “There is immense potential in this sector. With proper guidance and government support, a farmer can even earn crores through fish farming,” he added.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to support rural livelihoods, the minister informed that various grants and subsidies are available under multiple schemes aimed at boosting milk, fish, and egg production. “There is a growing demand in the market, and we want our farmers to meet it. We’re standing firmly beside them,” he emphasized.
Minister Das also announced a special toll-free veterinary helpline 1962 through which people can seek emergency services. “If an animal is seriously ill, doctors will now be able to visit homes and provide treatment directly,” he said.
Minister Das was accompanied by Dharmanagar MLA and Assembly’s Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, Dharmanagar Municipal Council Chairperson Mitali Rani Das Sen, Department Secretary Deepa D. Nair and Director of ARD Dr. N.K. Chanchal.
Officials noted that the new facility is equipped to provide a range of veterinary services, including vaccinations, disease diagnosis, emergency care, and the distribution of subsidized medicines. The government sees this as a vital step in enhancing livestock productivity and farmer income in the district.
