Agartala, January 24, 2025: A fire broke out in the control box of an underground power line near the Loknath Temple in Agartala city, situated adjacent to the Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s residence causing panic in the area. The fire brigade and electricity corporation employees swiftly responded to the emergency, successfully averting a potentially disastrous situation.
The incident took place early in the morning of Friday when passersby noticed flames erupting from the control box. Eyewitnesses immediately alerted the fire brigade, who arrived at the scene with a fire engine. However, controlling the fire proved challenging, requiring additional support from the employees of the electricity corporation.
“It was a close call. The flames could have spread to nearby structures, causing immense damage, but the coordinated efforts of the firefighters and electricity workers saved the day,” said a local resident.
The fire was eventually brought under control after a prolonged effort. The employees of the company responsible for the installation of the control box played a critical role in extinguishing the blaze. “Our team worked tirelessly alongside the fire brigade to ensure the fire did not escalate. Safety remains our top priority,” stated an official from the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).
The incident has left the local community on edge, given the proximity of the fire to the Chief Minister’s residence. “This could have been a catastrophic event. The authorities must investigate the cause of the fire and ensure such incidents do not occur again,” demanded another resident.
Officials are yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, but preliminary assessments suggest a technical fault in the control box. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to prevent future occurrences.
