Fish Farming Has Empowered Rural Communities to Become Financially Stable: Minister Sudhangshu Das at National Fish Farmers Day

Agartala, July 10, 2025: The 25th National Fish Farmers Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at the College of Fisheries in Lembucherra, Tripura, on Thursday. Organized jointly by the College and the Central Agricultural University (Imphal), the event paid tribute to the vital contributions of fish farmers in promoting sustainable aquaculture and advancing India’s Blue Economy.

The program held in the college auditorium was attended by key dignitaries including State Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das, Fisheries Department Director Santosh Das and College Principal Dr. Arun Bhai Patel. The event featured exhibitions, interactive stalls, and demonstrations showcasing technological innovations, indigenous fish species, and modern aquaculture techniques.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Sudhangshu Das emphasized the growing importance of fish farming in Tripura’s rural economy. He highlighted the government’s initiatives to modernize the sector, stating that expanded access to fingerlings, quality feed, and skill training has empowered communities to achieve self-reliance.

“Our goal is to build a strong and inclusive Blue Economy in Tripura,” the minister said. “Partnerships with institutions like the College of Fisheries and CAU are helping us bring innovative solutions to the grassroots. Fish farming has evolved into a source of dignity, economic stability, and environmental stewardship.”

As part of the event, progressive fish farmers from all eight districts were felicitated for their outstanding contributions to sustainable aquaculture. In a symbolic gesture of support, the minister also distributed fingerlings and fish feed to local farmers.
