Five Arrested In Manipur For Extortion, Arms Possession, And Misinformation: Police

Manipur Police arrested five individuals from different parts of the state on Tuesday in separate cases involving extortion, illegal possession of arms, and dissemination of misinformation on social media.

Two suspected militants of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG), identified as Khomdram Joy Singh (51) and Maibam Memcha Devi (49), were arrested from Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou in Bishnupur district. Police said the duo was allegedly involved in extorting money from local businesses. A .32 pistol with an empty magazine was recovered from them.

In another operation, an active member of the KCP (MFL), identified as Yumnam Jenica (22), was arrested from Chingmeirong in Imphal East district. She too was accused of extorting small business owners in the area.

Meanwhile, police arrested a man identified as Haobam Sitaljit (55) from Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai in Imphal East for illegal possession of a loaded 9 mm pistol.

In a separate case, Rabikanta Konjengbam (34) was arrested from Ward No. 3 in Bishnupur town for allegedly spreading false information on Facebook regarding a firing incident at Phubala, police said.

All arrests were carried out on Tuesday, according to police.
