Incessant rainfall over the past several days has triggered multiple landslides and caused widespread flooding the several areas of Manipur leaving road connectivity disrupted and several families displaced.
Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts are reeling under floodwaters after breaches in the embankments of the Iril and Thoubal rivers. Vast areas in Imphal West, including Wangoi, Yumnam Huidrom Leipharkpham, Iramsiphai Mutum Phibhou, Chirai Mayang Imphal, Paobitek Upokpi Kokchai, and Mayai Lambi, have been inundated. Officials of the Water Resources Department said efforts are underway to plug the breaches and contain the spread of flooding. River levels are being closely monitored, and emergency response teams remain on standby to assist affected populations.
Senapati and Ukhrul districts have been among the worst affected, with major landslides blocking key routes. According to official reports, landslides and subsidence have occurred at multiple locations along NH-129A (Maram–Peren Road) and NH-102A (Ukhrul–Tolloi–Tadubi Road). Light motor vehicles are being diverted through the Old PWD road, now open for one-way traffic. Authorities have instructed sub-divisional officers and traffic police to coordinate with NHIDCL and PMU-Senapati to ensure compliance with the new directives.
