Kohima, Mar 6: Nand Kishore Yadav, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and former Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, has been appointed as the new Governor of Nagaland.
Reacting to his appointment, Yadav expressed gratitude to Droupadi Murmu and Narendra Modi for entrusting him with the responsibility. He said he would work for the development of the state while functioning within the constitutional framework.
“I thank the President of India and the Prime Minister for giving me this responsibility. I will contribute to the development of Nagaland within the framework of the Constitution,” Yadav said on Friday.
Yadav represented the Patna Sahib constituency and has held several positions in Bihar politics. He served as Speaker of the Bihar Assembly from 2024 to 2025 and previously held ministerial portfolios including Road Construction and Health. He has also served as Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly.
His appointment is part of a wider reshuffle of Governors and Lieutenant Governors announced by the President.
As part of the changes, retired Army officer Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed Governor of Bihar.
In other appointments, R. N. Ravi has been transferred from Tamil Nadu to serve as Governor of West Bengal, replacing C. V. Ananda Bose, who resigned.
Vinai Kumar Saxena has been appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, while former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
Additionally, Shiv Pratap Shukla has been transferred from Himachal Pradesh to Telangana, while Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed Governor of Maharashtra.
Outgoing Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta has been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, currently Governor of Kerala, has been given additional charge as Governor of Tamil Nadu.
