Former Chief Minister and BJP leader N. Biren Singh today released the book Emergency Diaries, authored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Thambal Shanglen (BJP state headquarters), Keishampat in Imphal.
Speaking at the book release function, the Chief Minister recalled that during the Emergency period in 1975, ten individuals from Manipur were arrested and imprisoned.
He emphasized the importance of acknowledging and correcting past mistakes, stating, “If we do not rectify the wrongs of the past, we cannot build a clean and just future. A new and upright generation can only emerge when past wrongdoings are addressed.”
Highlighting the current situation in the state, Singh said, “This violence is a consequence of our efforts to set things right. Since assuming office, my government has been working consistently to correct past misdeeds and restore justice.”
The event was attended by party leaders, intellectuals, and members of the public who gathered to reflect on the impact of the Emergency and the importance of safeguarding democratic values.
