Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday appealed to the people of the state to maintain peace and avoid violence, stressing that this is a crucial period for Manipur. His remarks came upon his return from New Delhi, where he held key discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other central leaders.

Speaking to the media at Imphal Airport, Biren Singh said he had two rounds of meetings with top officials in the national capital, during which he raised pressing concerns about the prevailing law and order situation, the plight of internally displaced persons (IDPs), and the urgent need to ensure the smooth movement of goods and people along the National Highways.

He informed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave a patient hearing and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to protecting Manipur’s interests and its indigenous communities.

On the issue of government formation, Biren Singh said the Home Minister had assured that appropriate steps would be taken after a proper assessment of the ground situation. Emphasizing the need for unity and stability, the former Chief Minister urged citizens to adopt democratic means of protest and support peace-building efforts.
