Four PREPAK (PRO) Cadres Arrested; Huge Cache Of Arms And Ammunition Recovered In Imphal East

In a significant counter-insurgency operation aimed at curbing extortion activities in Manipur, security forces arrested four active cadres of the proscribed militant group PREPAK (PRO) from different locations in Imphal East district on June 22. The arrests were made during intensified intelligence-based combing operations and cordon-and-search efforts being carried out across the state.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Thingbaijam Philip Singh of Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Lourembam Kumar Meitei alias Kanto of Houbam Marak (currently residing at Sawombung Relief Camp), Laishram Haridas alias Holaiba of Uripok Sorbon Thingnel, and Yumnam Akash Singh of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai in Kakching district.

Following their interrogation, security forces recovered a massive cache of arms and ammunition from the foothills near Kalikau, located under the jurisdiction of Porompat Police Station in Imphal East. The seized arsenal includes several sophisticated weapons such as SLR rifles, .303 rifles, a Light Machine Gun, and a modified sniper rifle. In addition, large quantities of magazines, live and training ammunition, grenades—including hand grenades and smoke grenades—tube launchers, detonators, and spent cartridges were recovered.
