The Sohra MDC and the Chief of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) – Titosstarwell Chyne, noted that geographical issues are accountable for the delay in the creation of the Sohra District.

Addressing the media persons, Chyne asserted that “some villages fall under the Sohra constituency but are not within the Sohra Civil Sub-Division, comprising of two Community and Rural Development Blocks – Laitkroh C&RD Block and Shella-Bholaganj C&RD Block.”

“Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is concerned about the villages within the Sohra Constituency, but don’t fall under the purview of the Civil Sub-Division. He hopes to bring these hamlets outside the Civil Sub-Division and under the ambit of the Sohra district. It is relevant to think of it that way, but it is up to the government concerning the inclusion or exclusion of villages,” – he said.

“It seems that the government mulls to include Pynursla C&RD Block under the Sohra district. I will not comment further as far as the discussion on the matter is concerned, but our demand is that Sohra Civil-Sub Division upgrades into a district,” – he added.

He added that the residents emphasized the forum to prepare relevant documents vis-à-vis, demanding the creation of Sohra District.
