Agartala, May 01, 2025: “The primary goal of the government is to ensure a safe and conducive environment for students staying in hostels,” said Janjati Kalyan Minister Bikash Debbarma during a review meeting held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala on Wednesday. The meeting was organized by the Janjati Kalyan Department focused on the current conditions and future improvements of ST hostels across the state.

Minister Debbarma emphasized the need for comprehensive efforts to upgrade infrastructure, cleanliness, education quality, and the overall hostel environment. “We are working relentlessly to achieve this objective. Hostel in-charges must perform their duties with greater responsibility and sincerity,” he asserted.

He directed sub-divisional and district-level welfare officers to carry out regular inspections to ensure proper delivery of services in the hostels. “Each officer must remain vigilant and ensure that our students receive the best possible facilities,” he added.

Department Secretary Brijesh Pandey and Director Subhasish Das also addressed the meeting. Das highlighted that in addition to the physical health of hostel residents, their mental well-being is also being given priority.

He further informed that the department is planning initiatives such as biometric attendance systems, smart classrooms, e-libraries, clean and green hostels, and distribution of free textbooks and scholarships. “These measures are essential to provide a nurturing and progressive atmosphere for our tribal students,” Das noted.
