Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Thursday chaired a comprehensive review meeting on the state’s sericulture sector at Raj Bhavan, Imphal.
During the meeting, Sericulture Director Robertson Asem presented an in-depth briefing covering key aspects such as silk distribution and production, plantation activities, seed and raw silk management, market linkages, and the condition of government-operated sericulture farms.
Asem also updated the Governor on the progress of the under-construction Eri Spun Silk Mill, highlighting its potential to enhance local silk production and generate employment opportunities.
The review also covered major government schemes including SILK SAMAGRA-2 and the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
After assessing the data and ongoing initiatives, Governor Bhalla stressed the urgent need to intensify efforts in the sector. He instructed officials to strengthen implementation and monitoring mechanisms to ensure sericulture becomes a more robust contributor to the state’s economy.
