Aizawl, Nov 21: Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), who is also the Visitor of ICFAI University Mizoram, graced the 13th Convocation of the University today at the NJ Yasaswy Memorial Auditorium, Durtlang North, Aizawl. Also present as Guests of Honour were Padma Sangthankima, Dr. C. Dothanga IPS (Retd), and Dr. Anil Kumar Joshi.
In his convocation address, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh wholeheartedly congratulated all the graduates who were conferred degrees at the 13th Convocation of ICFAI University. He described the occasion as a celebration of the students’ perseverance, dedication, and achievements, and a moment of pride and joy not only for the graduates but also for their parents and teachers. Emphasising the importance of hard work, honesty, integrity, and knowledge for true success, he urged the students to prepare themselves thoroughly for the many challenges that lie ahead. He advised them not to be content merely with merely obtaining a degree, but to strive for genuine expertise and competence. The Governor also encouraged the young graduates to think big, prepare accordingly, and equip themselves to excel in whatever career path they choose.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of ICFAI University Mizoram in providing high-quality, industry-relevant higher education in the state. He expressed happiness over the recent introduction of Ph.D programmes in English and Management, as well as the university’s plans to further expand its doctoral offerings. He called upon the university to continue focusing on skill-based and job-oriented courses that will contribute to the development and self-reliance of India and the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 vision. Addressing the graduates, he urged them to become competent professionals, innovators, and responsible citizens, reminding them that success is not measured only by personal gain but also by selfless contribution to the greater good of society. He further motivated the graduating students to move forward with self-confidence, self-discipline and humility so that they may attain the highest levels of achievement.
Prof. Ginlianlal Buhril, Vice Chancellor of the University, delivered the welcome address and expressed gratitude to all distinguished guests. Chancellor Prof. Y.R. Haragopal Reddy also delivered a speech on ICFAI Group initiatives. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Registrar Dr. David Lawmzuala.
During the ceremony, a total of 242 students who had successfully completed programmes across 15 academic disciplines (5 undergraduate and 10 postgraduate) were conferred their degrees. Of these, 212 were postgraduate students and 30 were undergraduates. Twelve outstanding students were awarded Gold Medals, which were personally presented by the Governor along with certificates. In addition, Honorary Doctorate Degrees -Doctor of Letters (D.Litt. Honoris Causa) – were conferred upon three distinguished personalities in recognition of their exemplary contributions to society and public service: Padma Sangthankima, Dr. C. Dothanga IPS (Retd) and Dr. Anil Kumar Joshi. Each of the honorary degree recipients delivered a brief yet inspiring message to the graduating students.
Established in 2006 under the ICFAI Group, ICFAI University Mizoram currently has an enrolment of 466 students, a faculty strength of 68 members, 34 regular and 34 visiting, and 11 non-teaching staff. The University offers 18 programmes, 12 at postgraduate level and 6 at undergraduate level.
The 13th Convocation was attended by senior officials of the ICFAI Group, faculty members, staff, alumni, parents of graduating students, and members of the Durtlang North Local Council.
