Agartala, January 09, 2025: In a significant development near the Indo-Bangladesh border, BSF personnel successfully thwarted an attempt by Bangladeshi smugglers to transport sugar illegally through the Magaruli Gram Panchayat in Kailashahar, Unakoti district. The incident took place on Tuesday morning, has drawn attention to escalating tensions and security concerns along the international border.
Speaking to Republic TV on Wednesday evening, Tripura Minister Sudhangshu Das highlighted the gravity of the situation. “It is indeed a significant issue which has been raised by the national electronic media news channel at this particular point of time. We have seen what happened yesterday at the international border in the Magaruli area,” he said.
Minister Das revealed that a group of Bangladeshi smugglers attempted to infiltrate Indian territory illegally, but their efforts were thwarted by vigilant BSF personnel. “During this illegal attempt, our BSF personnel vigorously attempted to stop the illegal activities. Unfortunately, they came under attack by ‘Jihadi’ radicals. This is a continuous process for Bangladeshi smugglers, who frequently try to smuggle goods and narcotics into Indian territory,” he explained.
The minister also expressed concerns over the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh following the regime change from former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the current Yunus-led government. “The situation of Hindus and ‘Sanatani’ people in Bangladesh has worsened. They are being attacked every day. Advisors under the Yunus-led government are deliberately pushing infiltrators into Indian territory through Tripura, aiming to create unrest in the northeastern region of India,” he alleged.
Minister Das further pointed out that some anti-national groups within the region are aiding these activities, compounding the challenge for border security forces. “This is a matter of great concern, and we must address it collectively to safeguard our borders and maintain peace in the region,” he added.
The incident highlights the persistent threat of smuggling and illegal infiltration along the Tripura border, prompting calls for heightened vigilance and coordinated efforts to tackle the issue effectively.
