Agartala, June 30, 2025: In response to rising complaints of water-borne illnesses in Master Para, a locality under Agartala Municipal Corporation, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar on Sunday announced a series of immediate measures, including intensified surveillance and inspection of the water supply network.
Around 70 residents have reportedly shown symptoms linked to water contamination, such as fever, dark yellow urine, and signs resembling hepatitis in children. As of now, 50 individuals have reported symptoms, and 10 are undergoing treatment.
During a visit to the affected area on Sunday, Dr. Kumar interacted with residents and conducted an on-site review along with officials from the Health Department, Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS), and the AMC.
“Since June 22, we’ve received complaints about possible water-related infections. Residents reported dirty drinking water. Directions have been issued to conduct a detailed survey of the water pipeline network. Old or damaged pipelines will be replaced,” Dr. Kumar told the media.
He also stressed the need to ensure that ongoing drainage works do not damage drinking water pipelines, which could lead to cross-contamination.
The Chief Medical Officer’s office has advised residents to boil drinking water for at least 15 days. Health teams are currently conducting door-to-door surveys. Although two previously collected water samples tested negative, authorities have now been directed to collect fresh samples from underground tanks and household sources for further analysis.
“There is no epidemic at the moment. We are closely monitoring the situation and taking all preventive measures,” Dr. Kumar reassured.
