Health Secretary Inspects New ANM Institute Building at Durjoynagar, Reviews Readiness for Early Operationalisation

Agartala, June 01, 2026: Kiran Gitte, IAS, Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday conducted an inspection of the newly constructed ANM Institute building at Durjoynagar, assessing its preparedness for early operationalisation in line with prescribed norms and guidelines.

During the visit, the Health Secretary reviewed various infrastructural and administrative arrangements to ensure that the facility is fully functional. The inspection focused on strengthening the institute’s readiness to commence training activities at the earliest.

Present during the inspection were Dr. Debasree Debbarma, Director of Health Services; Dr. H.P. Sharma, Director of Medical Education; Dr. Rajesh Anil Acharya, Head of Office-cum-Deputy Director (Dental); Dr. Shankha Shubhra Debnath, Deputy Director of Health Services; the Principal of Agartala Government Nursing College and the ANM Institute; members of the Nursing Council; and the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Public Works Department (MCD Division).

The delegation carried out a comprehensive tour of the premises, inspecting classrooms, laboratories, administrative sections, hostel facilities, and essential services such as electricity and drinking water supply. Other key amenities necessary for smooth functioning were also examined in detail.

Discussions were held on the preparations required to initiate the ANM training programme, with particular emphasis on expediting the completion of any remaining works. The officials underscored the need for timely coordination among all departments involved.

At the conclusion of the inspection, Gitte stressed the importance of swift operationalisation of the institute through effective inter-departmental collaboration. He noted that once functional, the institute is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the state’s healthcare system by producing skilled nursing and healthcare professionals.
