Agartala, October 28, 2025: A meeting of the High-Level Task Force on promoting tourism across the North Eastern states was held on Monday at the conference hall of the Tripura Institution for Transformation office. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia and attended by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha.
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and other Chief Ministers from the North Eastern region participated in the meeting virtually.
During the session, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma presented a detailed draft report on tourism development in the North Eastern region. Participating in the discussion, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Saha highlighted that the state has made remarkable progress in the tourism sector under the present government.
Dr. Saha noted that the draft report comprehensively outlined potential areas for growth and strategic plans to boost tourism across the North East. He emphasized that tourism has immense potential for employment generation and revenue growth. Stressing the importance of cultural and religious tourism, he called for improving connectivity, attracting investments, and ensuring the safety and comfort of visitors.
DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, while addressing the meeting, recalled that a similar draft report on trade development in the North Eastern states was earlier prepared under the chairmanship of Dr. Saha. He said that while promoting tourism, states must adopt a wider national and global perspective.
Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat underlined the significance of tourism in strengthening both national and global economies. He urged the Chief Ministers of all North Eastern states to take proactive initiatives to promote their unique tourist destinations.
Among those present in the meeting at the Tripura Institution for Transformation office were Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Planning Secretary L.T. Darlong, Tourism Secretary U.K. Chakma, Tourism Director Prashant Badal Negi, and other senior officials.
