Home Minister K. Sapdanga on Monday launched the campaign for “Operation Against Trafficking and Use of Drugs and Narcotics in Mizoram.” Present at the programme were Excise & Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, Home Department Secretary, IGP (Law & Order), Aizawl DC and SP, along with senior officials of the Excise & Narcotics Department and Police, as well as leaders of the Central YMA.

The Home Minister stated that the increasing spread of drugs in Mizoram has become a serious challenge. Since the widespread use of drugs is causing grave difficulties in society, the Government of Mizoram together with CYMA has resolved to take up strong measures against it. For effective and sustained action, the Government has given due consideration and decided to launch a coordinated drive. To ensure the safety of the State from drugs, a campaign named Ruihhlo Dona Beihpui (Operation Against Trafficking and Use of Drugs and Narcotics in Mizoram) will be carried out from September to December 2025, and today, September 1, 2025, marks its formal launching programme.

On August 7, 2025, a joint meeting was held by the Home Department, Excise & Narcotics Department, Police, SIB, and CYMA leaders to chalk out strategies and responsibilities. In this meeting, it was noted that drugs mostly enter Mizoram from the Myanmar side, and 22 identified entry points were highlighted. The meeting concluded that a full-fledged campaign against drug trafficking was urgently required. The following key resolutions were made:

Awareness Campaigns at Entry Points:

Teams were tasked to visit the 22 known entry points and conduct awareness campaigns in surrounding villages. Between August 25–29, 2025, the IGP (Law & Order) along with CYMA teams carried out awareness drives in various villages across Champhai District to mobilize community support for anti-drug efforts.

Strengthening Border Vigilance:

It was observed that although seizures are made at Mizoram’s entry points, drugs often re-enter Mizoram in consumable quantities through other States. To address this, close coordination with neighboring States is essential. On August 30, 2025, the Home Minister led a team of senior Home Department officials, Police, Kolasib District Administration, and CYMA leaders to Bairabi, Vairengte, and other locations in Kolasib District. They held meetings with community leaders to strengthen vigilance at border entry points and discussed detailed plans.

Mobilization of Resources:

The campaign requires sufficient funding and manpower. The Government has accordingly planned to allocate necessary financial resources to support workers engaged in this anti-drug mission.

Special Police Squad:

A special squad of 30 well-trained police personnel has been constituted under Mizoram Police. These members, having undergone proper training, will commence duties immediately. They will work in close coordination with community leaders and YMA members to ensure effective enforcement.
