Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has stated that he was compelled to resign from the Chief Ministerial post as the situation demanded, and has expressed a desire for the return of a popular government instead of prolonging President’s Rule in the state. He was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the 5-Day Ipudhou Marjing Expo 2025, held at the Marjing Polo Tourism Complex on Wednesday. The expo is being organised by the Centre for Research on Environmental Development (CRED) and the North East Women Entrepreneurs Association (NEWEA).

On being asked about the extension of President’s Rule in Manipur, former CM N. Biren stressed that people in the state are suffering and yearn for the return of a popular government. He asserted that the public is well aware of how President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur. He said the absence of an elected government has only worsened the situation and added that even MLAs now feel uneasy about entering government offices.Highlighting the difference, he claimed the condition of the state was far better under a democratically elected government and called for the restoration of a popular government to effectively address the people’s grievances.
