Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Manipur, in coordination with the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), have expressed deep anguish over the continued silence of the State administration, including the Governor, regarding the resettlement of displaced citizens.
In a statement, the IDPs said that despite submitting multiple memoranda and reminders over the past several months, no written assurance, progress report, or concrete implementation plan has been communicated to the affected families. They pointed out that the deadline earlier promised by the State Government for resettlement has long expired, while thousands of IDPs continue to live in relief camps amid uncertainty, fear, and loss of dignity.
The displaced communities stated that the repeated lack of response from Lok Bhavan and other State authorities has led them to believe that their constitutional grievances are being deliberately ignored.
In response, the IDPs and COCOMI have announced a peaceful march to Lok Bhavan (Raj Bhavan) on January 12, 2026, demanding a direct and accountable response from the Governor on the status, progress, and timeline of the resettlement process.
They emphasized that the proposed march is a lawful, democratic, and non-violent assertion of their constitutional rights to safety, rehabilitation, and dignity, and cautioned that responsibility for any further distress arising from continued inaction would lie with the State administration. The IDPs and COCOMI also urged the Governor to urgently break the silence and present a time-bound, written resettlement roadmap, warning that lasting peace in Manipur cannot be achieved without justice, accountability, and transparency in governance.
