The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that Meghalaya is likely to experience above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall during the hot weather season from April to June 2026.
According to the IMD, maximum temperatures across most parts of the State are expected to be normal to above normal, while minimum temperatures are also likely to remain above normal. For April 2026 specifically, monthly maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be above normal over many areas. Despite the rise in temperatures, the IMD does not anticipate any heatwave days in Meghalaya during this period.
Rainfall over the region, including Meghalaya, is expected to be below normal, which may affect water availability and agricultural activities, particularly in rain-dependent areas. The warmer daytime and nighttime conditions could also increase thermal discomfort during dry spells.
The forecast considers prevailing neutral El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) conditions over the equatorial Pacific Ocean and a neutral Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), suggesting no strong large-scale climatic factors to significantly increase rainfall in the region during the season.
