Additional Chief Secretary (Transport & TCI) Anurag Bajpai, IFS, on Saturday reviewed the progress of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) and other key infrastructure works at Imphal International Airport.
The review meeting, held at the project office of the Airport Authority of India (AAI), assessed the status of the terminal building, apron, approach road from the National Highway, power and water supply, along with other ongoing components of the project.
The meeting was attended by Transport Director Khumanthem Diana Devi, Deputy Commissioner (Imphal West) Mayanglambam Rajkumar, Superintendent of Police (Imphal West), Director (AAI), and officials from PWD, MPDCL, CISF, and the project team.
Officials informed that construction activities have resumed in full swing following the last review in December 2025, after facing prolonged delays due to various challenges, including conflict-related issues. The overall physical progress of the NITB project currently stands at around 50 percent completion.
During the meeting, all concerned agencies were directed to strictly adhere to the prescribed timeline and ensure completion of the terminal building, apron, power and water supply works by December 31, 2026, as per the Projected Date of Completion (PDC).
The Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West and PWD officials were also instructed to expedite the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) process for land acquisition required for the construction of the approach road connecting the National Highway to the new terminal.
In addition, the Transport Department, in coordination with AAI, held discussions with Alliance Air officials on the early commencement of flight services on the Imphal–Silchar route. The feasibility of enhancing regional connectivity by linking Imphal with Dibrugarh Airport was also explored.
The ACS, along with Transport Director, Director (AAI), and CISF officials, also inspected the new Cargo Terminal and directed the project agency to complete installation of necessary equipment and make it operational by April 30, 2026. The AAI Director was further asked to expedite required security clearances from BCAS.
Concluding the review, the Additional Chief Secretary stressed the importance of strong inter-agency coordination, timely execution of works, and improving regional air connectivity.
