The Imphal West District Administration, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, launched a major eviction drive today to clear unauthorised roadside structures and encroachments along public roads and footpaths. The operation, conducted in coordination with security personnel and revenue officials, commenced from the Keishampat to Malom stretch.
The drive followed an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner on July 4, 2025, aimed at removing illegal occupation of public spaces—particularly roads and footpaths—that were causing inconvenience to the public, obstructing traffic flow, and posing safety hazards.
Speaking to the media, DC Rajkumar Singh expressed concern over the persistent misuse of public infrastructure, especially footpaths, which have been encroached upon for commercial and private use. He stated that despite multiple eviction notices issued in 2022, 2024, and early 2025—and most recently on July 4—the encroachments continued. Occupants were given until 3 pm on July 11 to voluntarily vacate the areas, failing which today’s eviction operation was initiated.
He further informed that the cost of removing dismantled structures and debris would be recovered from the owners. If payments are not made within 10 days of the issued notices, penal action will follow. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the public to support the administration’s efforts in protecting public infrastructure like roads, bridges, and drainage systems for the common good.
Additional Deputy Commissioner K. Jadumani Singh, who was also present during the operation, reiterated that the drive was focused on removing unauthorised structures, including extended shops, signboards, piled construction materials, and other obstructions. He noted that these encroachments not only impeded free movement but also impacted law and order.
Numerous illegal structures such as tin sheds, street vendor stalls, and signboards were demolished during the drive. The district administration has announced that similar eviction operations will soon be conducted in other affected areas, including the Uripok stretch.
