Agartala, August 02, 2025: Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah on Friday described the relationship between India and Bangladesh as “spiritual and natural,” with economic trade as its main pillar. He made the statement while visiting the Agartala Integrated Check Post (ICP) on the first day of his three-day visit to Tripura.

“The relationship between Tripura and Bangladesh is like a river, natural and continuous. Just as the river flows freely between our two nations, our ties are both spiritual and people-centric,” Hamidullah said while interacting with officials at the ICP.

Hamidullah emphasized that the economic partnership is central to the bilateral relationship. “Trade is the mainstay of our ties. Both sides must work to strengthen this even further,” he asserted.

During the visit, the High Commissioner held a meeting with officials from the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), Immigration, and Customs. “Several existing issues were discussed, and we were able to make progress toward solutions,” he informed.

The envoy’s visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to deepen sub-regional connectivity and border trade through the Northeast. As part of his itinerary, Hamidullah will inspect the Agartala-Akhaura rail link project and visit Nischintapur railway station. On August 3, he is scheduled to tour the Maitree Bridge at Sabroom in South Tripura.

The High Commissioner said he was hopeful that the ongoing collaboration would take the longstanding India-Bangladesh relationship to greater heights.
