Agartala, August 26, 2025: India has emerged as the most affordable provider of satellite rental services globally, a transformation that was once unimaginable due to the country’s limited technological application and lack of commercial infrastructure in the space sector. This shift was highlighted by Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb during a speech at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Sipahijala district, marking International Space Day on Monday.
Deb credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recognizing and harnessing India’s technological potential, stating that for years, the country failed to capitalize on its space capabilities. “What was once overlooked has now become a global benchmark,” he said.
Reflecting on India’s broader technological evolution, Deb noted that the country once relied heavily on foreign nations even for mobile phone components. “Today, India stands as the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer,” he said, attributing the achievement to Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India.
He also cited Operation Sindoor as a testament to India’s advanced satellite and missile integration capabilities. “The world witnessed how India used satellite-linked missile technology to dismantle hostile threats from Pakistan,” Deb remarked, adding that such technological prowess has earned India global recognition and compelled adversaries to reconsider their stance.
Deb emphasized the importance of educating and sensitizing the youth about India’s technological strides. “They are the future. Just as we sow seeds to reap fruits, we must nurture young minds with awareness and confidence,” he said. Drawing a parallel with the Hindi film Lagaan, he underscored that determination and self-belief can overcome infrastructural limitations.
Highlighting recent policy changes, Deb pointed to the National Education Policy revision after 35 years, which now prioritizes vocational training and employability. “The focus is on aligning education with livelihood opportunities,” he said.
The event was attended by Takarjala MLA Biswajit Kalai, local administrative officials, school faculty, and students.
