The Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps has commissioned a 10-KW solar power plant in Muguthang village, a high-altitude settlement at 15,000 feet near the India-China border in North Sikkim.
The initiative, part of the Centre’s Vibrant Villages Programme, provides reliable and sustainable electricity to the remote village, which is home to 32 residents across 10 families. The solar plant now powers all households, enabling year-round habitation, enhancing night-time safety, improving connectivity, and ending seasonal migration during harsh winters.
Earlier, villagers relied on small personal solar panels and had to leave their homes and livestock for five to six months each year. The Trishakti Corps worked closely with the local community to implement the project, significantly improving living conditions and the overall well-being of the residents.
