Gangtok, Jun 4: The Indian Army is carrying out intensive search and rescue operations in North Sikkim following a major landslide that left parts of the region, including Lachen village, completely cut off.

According to the Ministry of Defence, Army personnel reached Lachen on foot through hazardous terrain and adverse weather conditions. A total of 113 stranded tourists, including foreign nationals, were located. On 3 June, 30 of them were successfully airlifted to safety.
Efforts are ongoing to trace six missing individuals. The Army has deployed specialised teams and equipment despite facing unstable ground and high-altitude challenges.
The Ministry stated that the Indian Army remains committed to saving lives, adding, “Every life matters, and every effort continues.”
