Agartala, August 25, 2025: An IndiGo flight from Dibrugarh to Guwahati, carrying Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was diverted to Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport on Sunday evening due to adverse weather conditions over Guwahati.

Airport authorities confirmed that the aircraft landed safely in Agartala after it was unable to proceed to Guwahati. Flight operations at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati were briefly disrupted owing to inclement weather.

On learning about the diversion, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury rushed to the airport to receive the Assam Chief Minister. “When I got the news that the Guwahati-bound plane of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma Ji, had to make an emergency landing at Agartala Airport due to bad weather in Guwahati, I rushed to the airport and spent some time with him,” Chowdhury said.

The Assam Chief Minister later continued his journey after conditions improved.
