This year’s Dussehra celebrations in Indore will feature an unusual depiction of evil, as organisers plan to include the image of Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, on the effigy of Surpanakha.
Sonam’s husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, went missing on May 23 during their honeymoon, and his mutilated body was discovered on June 2 in a ravine near a waterfall in Sohra (Cherrapunji), East Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya. Following investigations, Sonam, her alleged boyfriend, and others were arrested in connection with the case.
The 11-headed effigy, representing the destruction of evil, is being prepared by Indore-based group Paurush (People Against Unequal Rules Used to Shelter Harassment), which seeks to raise awareness about social issues through symbolic cultural expressions.
