Agartala, June 05, 2025: Tripura’s Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday inaugurated a camp under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana at the Rajnagar Vivekananda Craft Center in the Belonia subdivision emphasizing the significance of renewable energy and the role of solar power in ensuring a sustainable future.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given utmost importance to the use of renewable energy, especially solar energy, to secure the future of coming generations. The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana aims to promote domestic solar energy generation, reduce electricity bills, and even allow citizens to earn income by supplying surplus electricity to the grid,” said the Power Minister Nath during the event.

Highlighting the growing interest in the scheme, Nath noted, “The initiative is receiving a tremendous response in our state. Many consumers have already installed rooftop solar plants, reduced their electricity bills to zero, and are even earning by contributing to the power grid.”

The minister also explained the scheme’s details, saying, “Domestic users can install solar plants up to 10 kW capacity. The government is offering subsidies up to 3 kW, with a maximum subsidy amount of Rs 85,800. Installation can be done on rooftops, tin roofs, or open yards through registered agencies, and bank loan facilities are also available.”

He further urged the public to take advantage of the scheme before the subsidy window closes in March 2027. “This project not only saves electricity but also ensures no harm to the environment,” Nath added.

During the event, the Minister interacted with beneficiaries who shared their positive experiences. Local MLA Swapna Majumdar also encouraged residents to participate in the scheme. Among those present were Rajnagar Panchayat Samiti Chairman Biswajit Nath, social worker Dipayan Chowdhury, Joydeep Sarkar, Nodal Officer Shishir Debbarma, and Additional GM of TSECL Kanti Dey. A total of 57 individuals registered for the scheme at the camp.
