Newly appointed National People’s Party (NPP) National Vice President Irengbam Hemochandra Singh arrived in Imphal today and pledged to work diligently for the people while strengthening the party’s presence across the Northeast.
Speaking to the media, Hemochandra expressed his gratitude to NPP National President Conrad K. Sangma for entrusting him with the national responsibility, describing the party leadership as visionary and capable of bringing meaningful change.
The NPP announced his appointment for the 2025–2028 tenure with immediate effect under Article 11 of the party constitution, reflecting the party’s focus on promoting experienced leaders to key national positions.
A veteran political leader, Hemochandra is a five-time MLA from Singjamei and has served in several ministerial portfolios. In 2010, he became the youngest Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly after being unanimously elected with the support of both treasury and opposition benches.
He was previously a long-time member of the Indian National Congress and resigned in March 2024, citing loss of confidence in the state leadership, before joining the NPP. In his new role, he is expected to play a key role in strengthening the party’s organisational structure and expanding its influence across the Northeast.
