Kakching Deputy Commissioner Rohit Anand (IAS) has emphasised that the development of small businesses and entrepreneurs is crucial for the overall progress of Manipur. He noted that the growth of small enterprises plays a pivotal role in strengthening the State’s economy.
The DC made the remarks today while handing over cheques to 32 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex, Kakching.
Addressing members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the PMFME scheme, Rohit Anand commended them for their dedication and performance. He further said that the District Administration is planning to form more SHGs and Village Level Federations (VLFs) to enable more women to access government benefits.
Advising the beneficiaries to fully utilise the loans in their respective businesses, he urged them to work with sincerity, assuring that the Government is extending full support. He also encouraged them to approach the administration for assistance in case of technical, banking, or other issues.
Sharing his observations on local businesses, the DC pointed out that many people in the district are engaged in similar trades such as tiffin services, dry fish production, and kabok (local namkin) making. He cautioned that focusing on the same type of products could affect pricing and marketability. Instead, he advised SHGs to explore innovative and unique products, drawing inspiration from practices in other states, to secure better prices.
Rohit Anand also assured the entrepreneurs that he would personally help in promoting and selling their products in different markets across the State. He announced that various training programmes will be organised in the future and welcomed suggestions for specialised training. He further informed that doll-making training is currently being provided at relief camps.
The programme is being implemented in collaboration with the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) under the Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (RD&PR).
