Agartala, July 25, 2025: In a significant development for the people of Dharmanagar, North Tripura, the Union Ministry of Education has taken steps towards the establishment of a Kendriya Vidyalaya in the sub-division, following a formal appeal made by Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen.

In a letter dated July 3, 2024, Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen had urged Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to consider setting up a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Dharmanagar. Citing that Dharmanagar is the headquarters of North Tripura District and has a population of over 50,000 spread across 10.69 sq. km and three sub-divisions, Sen highlighted the lack of central school facilities in the area.

In response, Minister Dharmendra Pradhan acknowledged the request in a letter dated October 28, 2024, assuring that the matter had been forwarded to the concerned department for appropriate action.

Following the development, Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Union Minister, stating, “With deepest respect and immense gratitude, I write this letter on behalf of the residents of Dharmanagar, Tripura, to extend our sincere thanks for your invaluable contribution in approving and facilitating the establishment of a Kendriya Vidyalaya in our town.”

He emphasized that the decision marks a “significant milestone” for the region, offering children access to national-standard education without leaving their hometown.

“Your commitment to educational development and regional equity is truly commendable. This not only fulfills a longstanding demand but also strengthens the future of our youth,” Sen added.

The establishment of the Kendriya Vidyalaya is expected to benefit thousands of families in the region, bringing renewed educational opportunities and contributing to the socio-academic development of North Tripura.
