Agartala, September 09, 2025: Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Monday launched a scathing attack on the ruling coalition, accusing it of pushing Tripura toward “cultural and moral destruction” after granting permission for the establishment of a night club in the state.
“The culture of night clubs revolves around domestic and foreign liquor. Through such activities, they are attempting to ruin the lives, youth, and culture of the people of Tripura,” Chaudhury alleged.
He further claimed that the coalition government was resorting to such measures because it “knows its defeat is imminent.” Criticizing the BJP-led alliance, he said, “For them, Jai Shri Ram is just a political weapon, while in reality, they harbor an anti-Indian cultural mindset.”
On governance issues, the CPI(M) veteran accused the government of failing to deliver on education and healthcare infrastructure over the past seven and a half years. In contrast, he highlighted the Left Front’s achievements, citing the construction of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan as a premier cultural landmark in the North East.
Chaudhury also raised doubts over the reported expenditure of Rs 565 crore under the Smart City project. “Even after spending such a huge amount, nothing is visible in the city. Except for painting old structures and installing decorative lights, no real progress has been made,” he remarked.
Alleging large-scale irregularities in the Agartala Municipal Corporation, he claimed Rs 16 crore had been fraudulently withdrawn and suggested the misappropriated amount could be much higher.
“This coalition government has brought the state to the brink of ruin. We are calling for a strong protest and urging everyone to take to the streets to save Tripura,” Chaudhury appealed.
