Agartala, June 10, 2026: Tripura’s Animal Resource Development (ARD) Minister Sudhangshu Das on Monday described the inauguration of the Liquid Nitrogen Plant under the Animal Resource Development Department as a “historic milestone” in the state’s livestock sector, saying it would significantly strengthen artificial insemination services and boost milk production.

Addressing the inaugural programme of ‘Liquid Nitrogen Plant and Plant Buildings & Office’ organized by Tripura Livestock Development Agency at RK Nagar, West Tripura district, the Minister Das said that for years the department depended on purchasing liquid nitrogen from outside the state for preserving artificial insemination straws and vaccines. With the commissioning of the new plant, Tripura has taken a major step towards self-reliance in livestock development.

“The plant will help reduce expenditure, prevent wastage during transportation, and ensure a steady supply of liquid nitrogen for breeding activities across the state,” Das said.

He informed that the state government has planned three such plants, including facilities at Agartala, Udaipur and North Tripura. Once all three become operational, Tripura will be able to produce substantially more liquid nitrogen than its current annual requirement, creating surplus capacity for use by other departments as well.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to increase milk production, Das said initiatives such as artificial insemination, heifer distribution, calf nutrition support under the TLM scheme, and dairy development programmes are being implemented across the state. He noted that the department is also promoting poultry, piggery, goatery and duck farming under various schemes to strengthen the rural economy and generate employment opportunities.

The Minister further said that the ARD Department has played a crucial role in the state’s development by supporting farmers, enhancing livestock productivity and contributing to the vision of an “Atmanirbhar Tripura.” Congratulating departmental officials and staff, he urged them to maintain the facility efficiently and continue working towards the welfare of farmers and livestock rearers across the state.

Minister Das was accompanied by MLAs Ratan Chakraborty and Swapna Debbarma, Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil and other senior officials of the department.

The programme commenced with a welcome and inaugural address by Dr. Neeraj Kumar Chanchal, Director of the Department. Subsequently, Deepa D. Nair, Secretary of the Department, highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the State Government to expand artificial insemination services across Tripura.
