In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Kangpokpi Police on Tuesday seized 225 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing 9.844 kilograms, including the weight of the cases, during a joint operation conducted under the supervision of Abhinav, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi.
The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the transportation of illegal drugs. A combined team led by Addl. SP (Law & Order) Kangpokpi, SDPO Kangpokpi, SDPO Saparmeina, and OC Kangpokpi Police Station, in coordination with personnel from the 16 Assam Rifles and 112 Battalion CRPF, carried out the operation around 1 PM on October 14, 2025.
Three individuals were arrested during the operation — identified as Veineichong Lhungdim and her husband Thongkhopao Lhungdim from C. Munnom Village, Saitu Gamphajol, Kangpokpi, and Thangminlun Haokip, son of Thanghao Haokip, from T. Thangkan Village, Saikul. Police also recovered an Alto car used for transportation, a diesel auto, and four mobile phones suspected to have been used in coordination.
The accused are currently in custody, and investigations are underway to trace the source and broader network of the illegal consignment. Authorities have described the seizure as a major step forward in Kangpokpi’s fight against the drug menace and reaffirmed their commitment to intensify efforts to dismantle narcotics networks operating in the region.
Meanwhile, in a separate set of operations, security forces arrested several active cadres of proscribed underground groups across Manipur.
On October 15, 2025, two active cadres of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) — identified as Laitonjam Lucky Singh (32) and Soraisham Athoi Singh (42), both from Huikap village, Imphal East — were apprehended from the foothills of Ngariyan Hill under Andro Police Station, Imphal East district. Two mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
On the same day, an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG), identified as Md. Imran Khan alias Leingakpa (20) of Kairang Chingya Awang Leikai, Imphal East district, was arrested from his residence.
Earlier, on October 14, 2025, Manipur Police arrested two active cadres of the United National Liberation Front (Progressive) [UNLF (P)] from Haobam Marak Lourembam Leikai under Singjamei Police Station, Imphal West district. The arrested persons have been identified as Leishangthem Shinghajit Meitei (22) of Naranseina Mamang Leikai, Bishnupur district, and Sorokhaibam Dayananda Singh alias Nganba (28) of Thinungei Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur district.
They were allegedly involved in threatening local residents of Haobam Marak Lourembam Leikai. Police seized one 9mm pistol with a magazine, two mobile phones, and a wallet containing an Aadhaar card from their possession.
Authorities said the coordinated efforts reflect the state’s intensified crackdown on both drug trafficking and militant activities across Manipur.
