A joint operation conducted by Churachandpur District Police, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Churachandpur, and central forces on Thursday eradicated illicit poppy cultivation in the Siden Changpikot area within Dampi Reserve Forest under Sangaikot Police Station, Churachandpur District.
During the drive, approximately 12 acres of illegal poppy fields were destroyed. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug cultivation and maintain law and order in the region.
In a search operation conducted at Fungei Ching, Ngamukhong under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station, Thoubal District, security forces seized a cache of weapons and ammunition, including one Single Bore Gun, one country-made Pistol with a magazine, one 9mm Pistol Magazine, ten 36 HE Hand Grenades, one Radio Set (Baofeng), one Anti-Riot Grenade, one Stun Shell (Normal), fifty .303 blank rounds, thirty-six live ammunition rounds and forty-five empty cases.
In a separate operation, security forces recovered additional arms and ammunition from the jungle adjoining Zairol and Uchathol areas under Jiribam Police Station, Jiribam District. The seized items included one SMG Carbine with a magazine, one 12-Bore Single Barrel Gun, sixty live ammunition rounds, five UBGL rounds and two Grenades.
These operations highlight the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb the illegal possession of arms and maintain peace in the region. Investigations are underway.
