In a major security push, Manipur Police and central security forces have intensified intelligence-driven combing and cordon-and-search operations across various districts of the state. The coordinated crackdown, conducted between June 30 and July 1, resulted in the arrest of several insurgent cadres belonging to banned outfits and the recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and military-grade equipment.

On July 1, a major breakthrough was achieved with the arrest of Namgaklung Kamei alias November (42), the self-styled Deputy Chief of Army of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF-J). He was apprehended near Kekrupat in Imphal West district. A 9mm pistol with ten live rounds and a mobile phone were seized from his possession.
In another operation the same day, Mutum Ibohanbi Singh (49), an active cadre of the KYKL (SOREPA), was arrested under the jurisdiction of Andro Police Station in Imphal East. He was also found carrying a mobile phone.
Elsewhere in Imphal East, Md. Ajad Khan alias Kathokpa (29), an active member of KCP (PWG), was taken into custody from Khurai Chaithabi Leirak under Porompat Police Station. A mobile phone was recovered from him. Khulem Tulajit Meitei alias Tulen (21), associated with KCP (Apunba), was also arrested from Khurai Kongkham Leikai with a mobile phone in his possession.
A day earlier, on June 30, Khoirom Ingoton Singh alias Tomba (48), an active cadre of KCP (NOYON/MFL), was arrested from Keirao Khunou under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East. He was reportedly involved in extorting money from educational institutions. Recovered from him were a single-barrel gun, a 9mm pistol with two live rounds, a bulletproof helmet and jacket, and wireless radio sets.
Meanwhile, extensive search operations were carried out in fringe and vulnerable areas leading to the recovery of a large number of weapons and ammunition.
In Jiribam district, during a sweep conducted from Jairolpokpi to Uchathol on July 1, security personnel recovered two modified .303 rifles, six single-barrel breach-loading (SBBL) guns, four double-barrel (DBBL) guns, two 12-bore shotguns, one pump-action gun, and one tear gas gun. They also seized 180 live .303 rounds, eight SLR rounds, and 27 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, along with 11 tube launchers, five walkie-talkies with chargers, and eight tear gas shells.
On the same day, in Kotlen under Kangpokpi district, security forces recovered three bolt-action rifles, four single-barrel rifles, two pull-mechanism rifles, and six improvised mortars. The cache also included three white phosphorus grenades, three No. 36 hand grenades with accessories, two under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) shells, 45 rubber bullets, multiple live rounds of varied calibers, and blank cartridges. Additional recoveries included four tube launchers, one tear smoke grenade, and two tear gas shells.
Alongside anti-insurgency efforts, Manipur Police also continued strict enforcement of traffic and motor vehicle regulations. On July 1, authorities issued 58 challans and collected ₹94,500 in fines. On June 30, one stolen vehicle was recovered, and tinted films were removed from 28 vehicles to ensure compliance with traffic laws.
Security forces remain on high alert as operations continue in the conflict-hit state.
