The Assam Rifles on Monday distributed foot-pedal sewing machines to women across New Samtal, Yangnomphai, and Aivomjang villages in Chandel District, Manipur, as part of its initiative to promote self-reliance and livelihood generation in remote border communities.
Responding to local requests for economic support, the Assam Rifles identified New Samtal as the focal point for the project. The initiative aims to empower women by providing them with the tools to develop tailoring skills and undertake income-generating activities from home.
“The sewing machines will enable women to acquire household tailoring skills and pursue income-generating activities from home, contributing to long-term empowerment and self-sufficiency,” the Assam Rifles stated in a post on X.
