Manipur: Arms And Ammunition Recovered In Bishnupur; Mortar Shell Discovered In Bongyang Hill Range

Acting on intelligence regarding armed miscreants and hidden explosives, a combined team of Bishnupur District Police, Nambol Police, and 33 Assam Rifles conducted a search operation in the adjoining fringe areas of Aigejang and Leimaram Uyok Ching today.

The operation, led by Y. Shaktishen Singh, OC/CDO Bishnupur, and Maj. Nikhil under the supervision of SP Ksh Ravikumar Singh, IPS, was conducted from 6:10 AM to 8:00 am . Recovered items include one SLR with a magazine, one 51mm mortar tube launcher, one sniper rifle, three 40mm lathode shells, four SLR live ammunition rounds, four HE grenades (No. 36), one smoke bomb, various tear smoke shells, rubber bullets, camouflage clothing, and hunting shoes and other ammunition and explosive materials.

The recovered items, suspected to have been hidden by armed miscreants, were seized at 7:47 am following due procedures and handed over to Nambol Police Station for further investigation.

In a separate case, villagers of Itham Moirangpurel found a suspected mortar shell embedded in the soil at Bongyang Hill Range under Maphou Police Station, the adjoining area of Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts today. The discovery has prompted an investigation by local authorities to assess the threat and origins of the shell.
