A joint operation was launched on Thursday in Keipha Road and Thamnapokpi area of Bishnupur district to thwart potential activities by armed miscreants.
A coordinated team comprising personnel from CDO-Bishnupur, led by D. Robinson, MPS, Dy SP (CDO-II)/BPR, and Sub. Y. Shaktishen Singh, OC-CDO/BPR; a column of 2 JAK LI led by Major S. Kinobabu Singh; and Moirang Police Station officials including women police personnel, conducted a swift cordon and extensive search operation. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Amarjit Singh Lamabam, MPS, Addl. SP (Ops)/BPR, and the overall guidance of Ksh. Ravikumar Singh, IPS, SP-BPR.
During the operation, suspicious movements were detected in Thamnapokpi area. The team immediately moved in, but the suspected miscreants managed to escape under the cover of darkness. However, a significant cache of arms and explosives hidden in the Thamnapokpi Paton area was recovered.
The recovered items include one SLR rifle, one Sten machine gun with an empty magazine, two 12-bore pistols, four hand grenades (three of 36 type and one Chinese), multiple detonators, plastic explosives (PEK), an IED weighing over 2 kg, live and empty ammunition, communication devices (Baofeng sets), ballistic protection equipment (helmets, jackets, and plates), and other incriminating materials.
All seized items and the seizure memo have been handed over to Moirang Police Station for further necessary action.
