Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, on Wednesday chaired a series of key meetings aimed at strengthening the district’s efforts in narcotics control, transgender welfare, and social protection.
At the district-level NCORD Committee Meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Mini Secretariat Complex, officials deliberated on strategies to curb narcotics-related issues. Discussions included poppy cultivation in adjoining areas, welfare measures for drug abusers, enforcement activities, tracking of drug-abuse patients, regulation of drug stores and licenses, and awareness campaigns in educational institutions. The meeting was attended by the SP Bishnupur, DFO, and other district-level officers.
Later, the DC chaired a meeting on SOGIESC and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 and Rules, 2020, focusing on transgender-inclusive service delivery across health, education, social protection, and legal sectors. She announced that a District Level Transgender Protection Cell will soon be set up to safeguard the rights and welfare of transgender persons in the district.
In the afternoon, Pooja Elangbam presided over the District Planning Committee Meeting, where officials reviewed and recommended eligible beneficiaries for various social welfare schemes targeting Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), destitute senior citizens, and widows.
A physical assessment camp for PwDs and senior citizens also commenced today at the DDRC, DC Office Complex, Bishnupur. The camp, which will continue across the district until December 1, 2025, is part of efforts to extend benefits under the ADIP scheme. Eligible individuals are required to submit their Aadhaar card, income proof, UDID certificate, and a recent photograph.
