Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh on Tuesday hit out at the Congress party, accusing it of spreading unfounded allegations against the ruling party out of frustration.

Speaking to reporters at Thambal Sanglen, Nityapat Chuthek, BJP Manipur Pradesh Vice President N. Nimbus said the “venom” spread by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would not last long as the people were politically awakened. He accused the opposition of using derogatory terms such as “vote chor” to mislead the public, but maintained that citizens were fully aware of which party had engaged in unfair practices during past elections.

Highlighting the developmental works of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government, Nimbus said visible improvements in people’s lives had left the Congress unable to compete, leading it to resort to accusations of electoral malpractice. He further alleged that the party had lost credibility due to scams during its tenure between 2004 and 2014.

Echoing similar views, BJP Manipur Pradesh General Secretary K. Sarat Kumar said the Congress had been “completely rejected” by the people, and that Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a “Congress Mukt Bharat” was gaining momentum ahead of the upcoming elections.

On Congress’s claims of “vote theft,” Sarat Kumar pointed out that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had already dealt with the matter and found no evidence to support the allegations. He added that investigative agencies such as the IT, ED, and CBI had also not substantiated Congress’s charges.

Describing the opposition’s campaign as “an act of desperation,” he said the Congress stood exposed before the people, who were now politically aware and no longer swayed by what he called misleading propaganda.
