In a significant boost to the supply of essential commodities in Manipur, a goods train transported 2,390 million tonnes (MT) of cement to Khongsang Railway Station, Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced.

Khongsang, situated in Tamenglong district around 109 km from Imphal, is the only railway station located in the state’s hill districts.

“A total of 2,390 MT of cement arrived at Khongsang Railway Station. With more goods steadily being transported by train, this development is set to significantly ease the supply of essential commodities in Manipur,” Singh stated in a post on X late Sunday.

Officials confirmed that the cement will be loaded onto trucks and distributed to various parts of the state.

Frequent disruptions along National Highway-2, the primary road connecting Imphal to Dimapur in Nagaland, have highlighted the growing importance of rail connectivity in ensuring a steady supply of essential goods to Manipur.
