The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Manipur, organised a candlelight vigil at Kangla Main Gate, Imphal, demanding justice for Anjel Chakma and condemning racial discrimination faced by people from the Northeast.
Anjel Chakma, an MBA second-year student from Tripura studying in Dehradun, was allegedly assaulted in a racist attack on December 9.
He later succumbed to his injuries on Friday after remaining in the ICU for 17 days. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for accountability and strict action against those responsible.
Speakers at the vigil urged authorities to ensure a fair and thorough investigation and to take concrete steps to prevent racial crimes against people from the Northeast.
The programme was attended by National People’s Party (NPP) Manipur President Lorho S. Pfoze, NPP National Vice President I. Hemochandra, Kakching Assembly Constituency MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar, NPYF General Secretary Sunanda Leishangthem, along with members and supporters of the Youth Front.
