Manipur’s newly appointed Chief Secretary, Puneet Kumar Goel, IAS, accompanied by Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Principal Secretary (Agriculture), visited the Ngahmun Prefabricated Relief Camp at Champhai Sub-Division and the Mandop Relief Camp at Kangpokpi Sub-Division.

During interactions with inmates at both camps, the Chief Secretary stressed that the government’s primary focus is to ensure the peaceful and secure resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their original homes. He assured that state police and paramilitary forces are working tirelessly to make their return possible without any untoward incidents.

Encouraging camp residents to reach out to him with any requests or grievances, Goel personally met with students and elderly individuals to listen to their needs and guide them on availing government assistance. He also distributed stationery kits and sports equipment to students at both camps.

While expressing gratitude to the government for its continued support in providing basic necessities, IDPs also voiced concerns over the lack of examination centres, which they said was hampering students’ education and future prospects.

Later in the afternoon, the Chief Secretary chaired a district-level departmental meeting to review the progress of the DA-JGUA and PM-JANMAN tribal welfare schemes. Shri Hemant Kumar, IAS, SDO T-Waichong, presented updates on completed and ongoing projects and lauded the district administration for successfully resettling some IDPs to their original locations.

Goel also held interactions with civil society groups operating in Kangpokpi district during his visit.
