Manipur Chief Minister Yumkham Khemchand Singh on Saturday began a three-day visit to Jiribam district, marking his first road journey to the region since ethnic violence broke out in the state.

The visit is seen as a significant outreach initiative aimed at rebuilding trust and promoting dialogue between the Meitei and Kuki-Hmar communities amid the ongoing conflict. The Chief Minister is accompanied by eight MLAs, including representatives from the Meitei community, and state BJP president A Sarda Devi.

Officials said the Chief Minister is scheduled to arrive in Jiribam around 1 pm, where he will interact with community leaders, civil society organisations, and local residents to assess the ground situation and encourage reconciliation.

The visit follows recent directions from Amit Shah, who had urged the state government to intensify peacebuilding efforts and address the prevailing trust deficit.

During the tour, Singh is also expected to inspect key installations, including the Leingangpokpi police outpost and Jiribam District Hospital, to review security arrangements and essential public services.

Officials described the visit as a crucial step towards restoring stability and fostering long-term peace in the violence-affected state.
