The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has withdrawn its proposed economic blockade on the Asian Highway 1 (AH1/NH2), which was scheduled to commence at midnight on September 22.

The blockade was initially announced in protest against the recent attack on the 33 Assam Rifles at Nambol in Bishnupur district. However, CoTU decided to call off the agitation following assurances from authorities and measures taken to address security concerns.

In a meeting held today, the committee said the decision was also influenced by appeals from civil society organizations, particularly in view of the ongoing natural calamities along AH1/NH2. It acknowledged the “swift initiatives” taken to restore normalcy and ensure accountability.

Emphasizing that the move was made “in the larger interest of the public and to maintain peace in the region,” CoTU expressed gratitude to the public for their support. It further urged the government to adopt stronger preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future.
