Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, conducted an inspection of the District Hospital on Tuesday to assess its functioning and address key operational challenges.
During the visit, the DC held a review meeting with hospital officials and medical staff. Chief Medical Officer Dr. L. Raichandra and Medical Superintendent Kh. Satyabala briefed her on the hospital’s current status and highlighted several concerns, including staff shortages, outdated equipment, inadequate parking, and insufficient washroom facilities.
Pooja Elangbam toured critical sections of the hospital such as the OPD wards, Operation Theatre, Dialysis Unit, and diagnostic centres. She interacted with medical personnel, lauded their commitment, and urged them to continue their dedicated service to the public.
Medical Superintendent Kh. Satyabala informed that the hospital is strictly following COVID-19 protocols. A 10-bedded dedicated COVID-19 block, a testing site, and an isolation ward have been established as precautionary measures. She also noted significant improvements in treatment capacity with the presence of specialists, an increase in surgical procedures over the past two years, and the expansion of the Dialysis Unit from 3 to 6 beds.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by ADM Bishnupur T. Opendro and other concerned officials during the visit.
Later in the day, DC Pooja Elangbam also flagged off the “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas 2025” bus rally for Bishnupur district. Led by SDC/BO Kh. Rahina Shahni, the participants departed for the main event at the Manipur State Film Development Society, Palace Compound, Imphal.
