Manipur: District Administration Jiribam Observes 37th National Road Safety Month

The District Administration Jiribam, in collaboration with the District Transport Office, observed the 37th National Road Safety Month, 2026, on Thursday at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Jiribam. The programme was held under the theme “Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan – Road Safety, Safety to Life.”

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, IAS, announced a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing road safety awareness across the district. The activities include distribution of helmets to two-wheeler riders, along with pamphlets and stickers highlighting traffic rules and road signs. A bike rally is also scheduled for January 22, 2026, to further spread awareness on road safety.

The Deputy Commissioner encouraged the District Transport Office to organise quiz competitions and poster campaigns in coordination with the district police, health department, schools and colleges. He also directed the Public Works Department to ensure proper road markings along the national highway and other key roads in the district.

Krishna Kumar urged the public to make use of the services of the newly opened District Transport Office, which provides facilities for issuance of driving licences, vehicle registration and other transport-related services.

As part of the observance, the Deputy Commissioner administered the Road Safety Pledge. The event was attended by Superintendent of Police Prakhar Pandey, IPS, ADC Jiribam Th. Manoranjan Singh, MCS, SDO Jiribam L. Tarajeet Singh, MCS, DTO Jiribam M. Vikash, and officials from the DC Office, PWD and Health Department.

Earlier in the day, a social service camp was held at Jiribam Higher Secondary Playground, the venue for the upcoming 77th Republic Day celebrations in the district. The Deputy Commissioner inspected the site and directed departmental heads to coordinate closely to ensure the successful conduct of the Republic Day function.

Officials from the Jiribam Municipal Council, along with heads and staff of various line departments, participated in the social service camp, which aimed to promote community service and prepare the venue for the Republic Day celebrations.
